Prague SportsLaw Summit 2025

On December 4, 2025, Jan Brodec participated in the Prague Sportslaw Summit 2025 conference, which took place in the conference hall of the Czech Football Association in Prague.

Panel on sports law from the perspective of EU law

Honza was one of the speakers in the morning panel "Sports Law from the Perspective of EU Law," which was moderated by Dušan Sedláček from the law firm BÁNYAIOVÁ VOZEHOVÁ. Other panel participants included Jan Exner from FAIRZONE and Vanessa Plajaniková from EFC.

In his contribution, he focused on the current case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in the field of sports law. Specifically, he analyzed two landmark decisions:

  • The ECHR decision in the Semenya case, which concerns discrimination in sport and rules for the participation of athletes with differences in sexual development

  • The CJEU decision in the R.F.C. Seraing case relating to player transfers and the application of European law in this area

He presented his conclusions and observations from the perspective of an arbitrator at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which brought a practical dimension to the discussion on the application of European case law in international sports disputes. This perspective allowed conference participants to better understand how European decisions are interpreted and applied in the practice of international sports arbitration.
